Ink drawing: runners on an Amsterdam canal bridge under a red sun

Forty-two kilometres along the Amstel, through the Vondelpark and over the finish line in the Olympic Stadium. If you ran the Amsterdam Marathon, you have every reason to be proud. In the days after, your legs often feel heavy and stiff, and the stairs suddenly take a lot longer. That is all part of it. A good massage can help you feel at home in your body again.

When is the best time for a massage?

Give your body a day or two of rest first. Drink enough, eat well and go for easy walks so your muscles keep moving. After that, a calm sports massage is a great next step. Many runners come in two to four days after the race, once the worst stiffness has eased.

Always tell your therapist that you have just run a marathon. We will work a little more gently and pay attention to the areas that took the most strain.

What does a sports massage do?

In a sports massage we focus on the calves, hamstrings, thighs, hips and lower back. Kneading, long strokes and pressure on fixed points loosen the muscles. Most people walk out feeling a lot more supple, and sleep better that night.

Do you have pain that does not go away, swelling, or a feeling that something is strained? Please see your GP or a physiotherapist first. Massage is there to relax and loosen up, not to treat an injury.

Do not forget your feet

Your feet have taken tens of thousands of steps. A Chinese foot massage is a lovely extra, or a good choice if your thighs are still too sensitive. You sit comfortably and we work with pressure points on the sole of the foot.
